During the Tokyo Game Show this week in Japan, Sony announced the release of a smaller, lighter PlayStation 3 model arriving in two variants -- one with a 250GB hard drive and another with a 500GB hard drive -- which are approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PlayStation 3 Slim. Both new PS3 models will be available before the holiday shopping season begins in earnest this Thanksgiving.
The 250GB model, which will be available on September 25th for $269.99, will be part of a limited edition bundle and include a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: Game of the Year Edition as well as a voucher for more than $30 worth of bonus digital content for the massively multiplayer shooter, DUST 514.
The 500GB PS3 variant will be available in a limited edition bundle on October 30th in conjunction with the release of the much-anticipated Assassin’s Creed III, although final retail pricing for the 500GB unit has yet to be announced.
