Ubisoft has finally released the world premier trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, several days after just about everyone got wind of the title and the general direction that the game is headed. We’ve embedded the video above to save you a search.

The Black Flag trailer begins with a very solemn Blackbeard giving his “lads” an honest opinion on a rival pirate captain: “You ask me, can this new captain promise you a life of prizes, plunder, and adventure? Aye! For amongst all the gentlemen of fortune sailing these West Indies, he ranks amongst the most clever.”

Blackbeard is apparently willing to surrender the role of “deadliest scourge of these seas” to the newcomer, and he has no shortage of reasons for that. As he pours himself a drink, he recounts the time he once saw the man in question “clear the deck of a Spanish galleon like it were nothing.”

Video punctuates Blackbeard’s recollection. The rival pirate captain, dressed in garb befitting a traditional assassin within the Assassin’s Creed mythology, fires dual pistols to fell pirates who are rushing him through a haze left by cannon fire. Additional fights take place on land, as the captain battles along some crate-lined docks and ships sail in the background.

Subsequent scenes illustrate the captain’s familiarity with terra firma. He “knows his way around every crag and crevice of these islands,” a claim Blackbeard makes while accompanying footage shows the man in question leaving two nude women as they lounge in a canopied bed.

“So, if it’s fortune and adventure you seek,” Blackbeard concludes, “then Captain Edward Kenway’s your man. Only… don’t meddle in his private affairs, for there’s more mystery to that man than even I dare ask.”

The next scene shows a man walking along a path at nightfall, with a woman leaning on his arm. From behind, a shadowy figure skewers the unfortunate fellow in the fancy hat, then leaves with the lady as she looks back at the fallen stranger with obvious concern.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available on October 29, the trailer notes as it lists platforms that include the Wii U, PlayStation 4, and PC (among others). If you preorder now, you can even snag a poster designed by Todd McFarlane, of “Spawn” fame. If Blackbeard’s ringing endorsement is any indication, that might well be worth doing…
