By their own admission, the creators of the Pebble watch were taken aback by the mass response to their Kickstarter pitch for the unique e-watch—but they might have something for their backers at CES 2013.

As announced in a recent project update, the Pebble team will be making a special announcement about their gadget at this year's Consumer Electronics Show on January 9th.

If you happen to be at the Las Vegas Convention Center next week, just head over to Room S228 before 9:00 a.m.

Anyone who's not going to the show can still get the news live with a streaming feed at www.getpebble.com, although you'll likely miss out on any goodies that could be handed out at the event.

Fans of the handy e-watch are expecting an official release date, as the Pebble was originally planned to start shipping last winter at the very latest.

But ever since the Pebble blew out its fundraising period with over $10 million from nearly 69,000 backers (the biggest success in Kickstarter history so far), production of the watch has been a steady process during the past six months or so, with the team regularly posting updates on the manufacturing process.
