When Sony Pictures and Marvel successfully rebooted the Spider-Man film franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man, they used one of the wall-crawler's most iconic villains in the The Lizard, played by award-winning actor Rhys Ifans.
Now that the sequel has begun production, the studios will be enlisting another seasoned veteran for the villain's role, as Chris Cooper steps into the shoes of Norman Osborn, a.k.a. The Green Goblin.
Cooper should be a fantastic addition to the film, as the Academy Award-winner is one of the best character actors in the game today.
Not only does Cooper carry great screen presence, but he's also shown the chops to be an incredibly memorable supporting lead, as evidenced by his work in Adaptation, Seabiscuit, Capote, Company Men and The Muppets.
Interestingly enough, this will also be Cooper's first stint in a superhero film despite his relatively long career.
With fellow Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx slotted to play the classic Spider-Man villain Electro, it's not certain that Cooper's Osborn will develop into the Green Goblin role during a single movie, as he may be doing a two-film deal.
