If you’re looking for something to play on your Android device, there’s no shortage of available titles on marketplaces like TegraZone, Amazon's Appstore, and Google Play. Some of them are free, and some will cost you a mere pittance but perhaps entertain you for more hours than you’d ever imagine. If app purchases this last week on Google Play are any indication, one example of a good value is Rovio’s new title, Amazing Alex.
As the developer of the Angry Birds titles, Rovio is well known for its ability to produce popular interactive fare, so perhaps the fact that Amazing Alex showed up on the most recent list of top Android apps shouldn’t come as a surprise. However, the physics-based puzzler (not exactly new territory for Rovio) soared right past some similarly worthy competition to snag the impressive third-place finish.
According to the sales report by Gamasutra, ahead of Amazing Alex were Where’s My Perry? and Where’s My Water? from Disney. While Alex wasn’t able to vault past those offerings, the list of games he held at bay is still quite impressive given the lack of time to build up more extensive word of mouth. Rounding out the top 10 paid downloads were Cut the Rope, Temple Run: Brave, Draw Something, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Dead Trigger, Angry Birds Space Premium, and Fruit Ninja.
Lists of the bestselling titles in a given week shouldn’t necessarily be taken as recommendations, but they’re a good way to get a feel for the game’s that have caught the attention of other Android gamers. It will be interesting to see if Amazing Alex is still performing strongly a week from now. You can check out the entire lists of top grossing Android games below.
